For Ava's 9 month birthday her ANC went up even more from yesterday!! What a great present! The doctors are thrilled with her progress...knock on wood. We just cant get over how well she is doing based on what we were told when this whole thing started. We don't want to jinx anything, its just looking good so far :) Since Ava couldn't have a 9 month birthday party in the hospital, we decided to just hang out in the room and watch tv. She also had to have an ultrasound of her liver today. During a transplant, they worry about something called VOD (veno-occlusive disease) which affects the liver and it can be very serious. It is usually caused by high dose chemo preps for transplants. They check for symptoms everyday by checking blood levels, measuring and feeling her belly, taking her temp, and checking blood pressure. She was showing some elevated liver values, her blood pressure was up some, and she had been retaining fluid so they ordered an ultrasound to rule out VOD. These symptoms that she is having can also be caused by medications that she takes, and if this was the case, they would adjust medication doses. She was sound asleep when the ultrasound tech came in and she woke to jelly on her belly and some stranger messing with her. You would think she would be scared and crying, but nope, as always...a pleasure. The results of the ultrasound looked fine, no VOD...phew.
