We had our clinic appointment today, and found out her numbers did not increase :( Dr. Chen will monitor this closely and decide if wether or not she will need some blood from Audrey. They may need to transfuse lymphocytes from Audrey to help boost the number of donor cells. The most important thing right now is that that the donor cells don't decrease, and they haven't.
Some exciting news today was her platelets were 222,000!! That is completely in the normal range...its just so amazing!! Also, we (the Dr and our nurse, Nancy) decided today to take Ava off her TPN for now to see if her appetite comes back. The TPN was making her so nauseous that she had no interest in food for most of the day. Its like a vicious cycle, the TPN feeds her because she's not eating, but she is not eating because the TPN makes her nauseous. We will try 3 or 4 days with no TPN and only hydration at night, hopefully she will want to take more by mouth each day.
I will end this entry with my most disappointing news of the day. We will definitely not be out of here next week. Dr. Chen is not comfortable with it being that soon. All along we knew that most people stay up to 2 months or even more, but we were hoping that based on her progress it would be cut in half...this is not the case. I don't think it will be another whole month, but Im sure a couple extra weeks, and this is all based on her eating, numbers and no fever/infections. We of course will do whatever is necessary for her and would never argue it, but its hard when in your head you kinda hoped for a certain time limit. Its now 3 more weeks of being away from home, counting on others to care for my kids and animals, and more time for me to go crazy. I miss home so much. Dont get me wrong, I do go home every other night, but Im usually there just in time for dinner, bath, and bedtime, then I get up early and come right back to relieve Drew so he can go to work. It is mentally and physically draining, I am tired, run down, and emotional...
I only have this pity party for a couple of minutes then Im back to auto-pilot.
