For anyone who wants to check in on Ava, we thought this would be an easy way to tell her story...

2 weeks in the hospital!!

I can't believe today is 2 weeks in the hospital, it really has gone by so fast. When all this started we were told we could be here 30-45 days. If its 30 days, then we are half way there!! Ava is starting her own little schedule here, she is up for 2 hours then naps for an hour. She gets really tired which is expected. She still doesn't eat or drink for us, that may go on for a couple more weeks. She still vomits here and there, but her nausea medicine works well. I think what bothers her the most is her mouth. She has developed mouth sores called mucositis, we were told it would happen. These sores line her digestive tract and cause a lot of discomfort. She has a pain management team that checks on her daily and can increase her pain meds as needed.
So today was the same as other days, just sitting around watching baby einstein, playing and cuddling. One positive thing today was that her ANC count (her neutrophils, the infection fighting part of her WBC's) was up a little since the transplant! They were wiped out to zero with the chemo and we were told that a week or so after transplant we would see them rise and fall and then gradually keep on rising.  Looks like Audrey's marrow is doing its job :)
Tonight before bed I gave her a sponge bath and by accident wiped off a little teeny weeny scab that was on her ear. You would have thought I cut her ear off. She bled and bled, and every time it would start to clot, she would rub her hand or nails on it and it would start right over again. I felt so horrible :(  They decided to give her some more platelets tonight so she would be able to clot. I put her to bed with her ear all messy, the doctors felt we could address it in the morning and give it the night to clot while she sleeps. We will see how the night goes.
Meanwhile, Drew is at Target with Audrey and the boys. He just sent this picture to me of Audrey with her posse. Wish me and Ava were at Target...

  1. I'm sooo glad her count is going up, Julie. Audrey brought the good stuff :). And I wish you could've gone to Target with the rest of your family too. You are halfway (we will think it, it will come true) there! XoxoX
