Ava with her pulse ox |
Im typing on no sleep. Last night was hard, our worst night yet. Ava fell asleep normal time and then around 10 pm we noticed she had some labored breathing. I was just getting ready to go to sleep when the doctors came in to assess her. They were really concerned which made me freak. They checked her oxygen level continuously because of the breathing, it was at 99% which is perfect. They kept listening to her and said she sounded clear, but she lay there taking these short, labored breaths. The doctors explained the different possibilities and ordered an x-ray. Worst case scenario would be a lung infection, best case would be fluid retention around her lungs. Thank goodness it was fluid retention!! She is hooked up to so much stuff, she was having a hard time getting rid of it. Her kidneys are what filters everything and they couldn't catch up with everything going in. They gave her some doses of lasix which would help her pee it all out. Meanwhile, she had her platelet infusion, her blood transfusion, her IV nutrition, pain meds, benedryl, anti nausea, antibiotics, anti-fungal meds all going...what was one more IV medication right? And on top of it all, she was vomiting every hour or so. By this time it was 3:00 am, and I had her next to me watching every breath she took. The nurses and doctors kept telling me to try and get some sleep...seriously? The cutest part of the night was watching her discover her pulse ox (oximetry), the nurses sneak it on her toe or finger when she is asleep (it measures her oxygen intake). It was pitch black in the room and all of a sudden I see this little red light moving around her face. She cracks me up, she woke up, immediately found it, pulled it off and inspected it.
By 5 a.m. we were still kinda up. When the nurse stopped coming in every 45 minutes (which I am VERY thankful for), we slept 1 long glorious hour. She did continue to dry heave till about 10 a.m. but then didn't for the rest of the day. Drew took over at 2:00 and I came home to get Audrey and the boys. Needless to say, I am tired. We are hoping to have Audrey and the boys visit her tomorrow night, to cheer her up...shhhhhhhhh, its a surprise :)
Oh, and to top off the day...we found little clumps of hair on her pillow :(
I am so sorry you had a hard night/ day.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing an amazing job and Ava is such a figher! I hope her visit with her brothers and sister is wonderful!
Sorry, too! :( You guys are amazing and little Ava is precious.
ReplyDeleteI pray you both have a restful sleep and joy in the morning with the rest of your clan! Know God loves you so even in the midst of unimaginable battles. I pray his awesome grace covers all of you continually.
I know we already talked but I want to say since this night, I have been praying hard for you all to have lots of rest. I know this journey will be a roller coaster but I'm hoping it's time to coast now so you all can gain strength. I am beyond proud of how you are handling all the uphills on zero sleep and exhausted spirit, my friend. Just know you are doing the most incredible job a mom can do and then some. Love you, Julie.
